THE ISSUE

Across the world, users are being locked out of their accounts without warning, explanation, or meaningful support. What was once occasional is now becoming systemic.

In recent months, major online platforms have expanded their reliance on artificial intelligence to enforce policies, while reducing access to human moderation and support systems. These automated systems are designed to act quickly, but they also introduce serious risks.

Users are increasingly reporting account restrictions, content removals, and permanent disables triggered by automated decisions, often without clear reasoning or effective resolution pathways.

At the same time, AI-powered support tools are being rolled out globally. While these systems provide general explanations or guide users through appeal processes, they often cannot reverse enforcement actions or restore access. Many users are left navigating systems with no meaningful assistance.

Governments and regulators around the world are beginning to respond, introducing new rules and scrutiny around platform accountability, artificial intelligence and user protection.

This is not an isolated issue. It is a systemic failure driven by automation without accountability, leaving real people, businesses, and communities without access, answers, or support.

“Access without support isn’t access at all.”

Why This Matters

Real people are affected when systems fail.

Automated decisions are impacting access, income, data, and communication at scale, often without clear explanations or meaningful support. What should be rare is becoming increasingly common.

The Issue. The Impact. The Demands.

This campaign calls for fairer enforcement, clearer decisions, real support, and stronger accountability when automated systems affect people’s access, income, data, and communities.

Global Movement

Uniting voices across borders and platforms.

GLOBAL IMPACT

This issue is affecting users worldwide across industries, professions, and communities.

... And more.

Our Demands

Fairness. Transparency. Accountability.

These are the fundamental standards required to ensure fair treatment, clear decisions, and meaningful access to support.

As automated systems take on a greater role in enforcement, the risks to users increase when transparency and accountability are not in place.

Without these safeguards, people can lose access to their accounts, data, and communities without explanation or effective resolution.

These standards are essential to ensure that systems serve people, not the other way around.

1. Human Review

All enforcement actions should include access to human review.

2. Clear Decisions

Users must receive clear and specific reasons for account actions.

3. Fair Appeals

Users must receive clear and specific reasons for account actions.

4. Real Support

Users must have access to real customer support when issues arise.

5. Data Protection

User data and access should be protected from wrongful loss or restriction.

6. Transparent Policies

Platform rules should be clear, consistent, and easy to understand.

7. Consistent Enforcement

Policies must be applied fairly across all users and situations.

8. Independent Oversight

Systems should be subject to independent oversight and accountability.

One day I received an email from Facebook: "Elvis, you have 180 days to take action. Your Facebook account is suspended. The reason is that your account or activity in it does not comply with our Terms of Service regarding who can use Facebook. If you think we have stopped your account by mistake, you have 180 days to appeal our decision. If you miss the deadline, your account will be finally deactivated." Ten minutes later I received another email: "Review failed Hello, Elvis, Your Facebook account is finally deactivated. You have reviewed this decision, but we have nevertheless found that your account or activity in it does not comply with our Terms of Service. You cannot request another review. Learn why we deactivate accounts by visiting the Terms of Service." No more information given. I didn't upload or share anything wrong...

I am signing this petition because automated suspensions by AI bots with no human recourse are destroying our digital lives. I was suspended from my Meta accounts due to a simple algorithm glitch. To make matters worse, I was also banned from Discord in the exact same way: it has been over 2 months now, and there is absolutely no human support to review my case. We are cut off from our contacts, our appointments, and our memories without being able to speak to a single real person. This is unacceptable; tech companies must provide real customer service.

I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for basic fairness. Our accounts represented real educational institutions and real people - students, parents, adult learners, teachers, course participants, and local partners. Losing access to these accounts meant losing part of our ability to communicate with the community we serve. For a local educational organization, social media is not a luxury. It is infrastructure. It is where people ask questions, find courses, learn about recruitment, discover events, and decide whether to trust an institution. When access disappears without explanation, the consequences are immediate: lost trust, lost leads, lost advertising money, lost time, and unnecessary stress. No company should have the power to damage a legitimate educational project without giving a clear reason and a real opportunity to speak to a human being.

Approximately three weeks before the suspension notice, I myself chose to temporarily deactivate my account in order to take a break from social media. This was an intentional, voluntary action using Instagram’s own “Deactivate Account” feature. While my account was deactivated, I received an unexpected email stating that my account had been suspended for violating Instagram’s terms. This was shocking to me because the account was inactive by my own hand; I did not post, comment, or log in during that period. I suspect the system may have misinterpreted the deactivated state or a subsequent automated security check as a violation. I immediately submitted an appeal through the official channel, providing the requested verification. I received a reply stating that my account cannot be restored. I firmly believe this decision was made by an automated system without a proper human review of my specific situation.

Facebook banned me for no reason.I did not appeal as there is no appeal process. 3 weeks later I received an apology from Facebook saying the ban was a mistake and my account was restored. However, I now cannot list anything on marketplace, the AI Bots say my account status is good, and they cannot help me, and they have no way of transferring me to a human, so I'm stuck waiting, hoping Facebook will get around to fixing the problem, or at least turning the AI off until that happens

My facebook account was disabled with no warning. No option to talk to a real person. Ive been on it for probably 20 years with no issues. Then suddenly it's gone. I was using messenger to manage my child's soccer team chat, as i am the tram manager. I cant access that now. I cant access my child's school information. I cant find out what is happening in my local community. My children are locked out of messenger kids and cant contact their friends and cousins.
